That was one of those days that comes along once every few years and you just happen to be in exactly the right place at exactly the right time. Cheers.

How I would’ve loved to go to Glen Etive! The weather looked perfect and the photos are great. The view on Bidean nam Biam is terrific. It’s one of the mountains I dreamed to climb but it just never happened.

It makes all the wet days worthwhile. Almost.

I think people have always done that ??? even in ancient times, in fact probably more so then than now.

Standing on a mountain watching the sun come up is a wonderful experience. I think your article is spot on, it must have invoked the same feelings in the ancients as it does in us nowadays. When I stand on some mountain, ancient hill fort, or stone circle waiting for the sun to rise, I often wonder was there some man or woman stood here thousands of years ago watching the sunrise and thinking WOW just like me?

You’ve just awoken a yearning in me, Alan. Ah, the good things in life . . .

Being up high in the early morning winter sunshine, above the clouds. It’s not better than that, is it? Even better to make some bacon in a pan and real hot coffee.

You never want to go back home then.

It doesn???t happen as often as it should. The only fault with Buachaille Etive Beag is that it???s a small mountain so my walk was over by early afternoon. It would have been a great day for Bidean.

I work evenings and into the early hours mostly, so I’m not usually up before ten. But when I’m in the mountains, I’m out and about while it’s still dark. It’s a great feeling watching the sky turn from black to blue and grey ??? especially when it’s a fine morning. And let’s face it, they are few and far between in the Highlands.
