This section of the road is known as Fairmile Road Roman road plus ancient chariot made by Germanic tribes Fairmile Road is in the foreground, with the West Coast Main Line and M6 motorway on the far side of the Tebay Gorge. The River Lune flows through the gorge but you can???t see it A collection of bones, none of which belongs to William Smurthwaite. The path continues up very steep ground to the left of the waterfall Stone of destiny. It would be nice to think this stone marks the site of the gibbet on Gibbet Hill, but it probably doesn't.
